Last weekend we went on the longest and hardest hike we’ve done so far, 8.4 miles and 1706 ft in altitude. We thought it is time to stretch our limits. And with a little bit of company from our friends, even our 4 1/2 and 6 year old were motivated enough and had some fun. At around 10am we left the Wanderparkplatz Kirschenweg in Dettingen/Erms. If you want to see the blooming cherry trees, this would also be a good starting point. But the “cherry tree path” goes a little bit differently and would have meant a detour for us. That’s why we decided to do this another day. Our first goal was to hike to the Höllenlocher (“hells hole”). It is basically a ditch, that you have to climb through over rocks and with ladders. Very exciting for us and especially for the kids of course.
After this exciting part of our tour we were heading to the Gütersteiner waterfall. It is one of the two waterfalls in the area. The other one is the Uracher waterfall (way to overrun if you ask me). The Gütersteiner waterfall is at least as beautiful as his “big brother” and because it is not as “popular” there are less people there. After having a coffee break and letting the kids play a little bit with the water there, we headed back again.
At around 5pm we finally made it back to our car. This hike was a real challenge (not only for the kids) but we’re glad and so proud of us that we did it.
