The awesome weather on Sunday (almost 68°F) provided us with a much needed chance to dust off our hiking boots and walk through the vineyards near Heilbronn.
It was during our first steps that we noticed how well the daily watchword from John 15:4 fit: „Remain in me, and I will remain in you. A branch cannot produce fruit alone but must remain in the vine. In the same way, you cannot produce fruit alone but must remain in me“ This made us enjoy our hike even more, despite the masses of people we encountered. If we go there again we‘d definitely go on a weekday.
The 3.7 miles hike starts in the Felsengartenkellerei (winery) in Hessigheim and winds through the nearby rock garden. Afterwards it leads through the fields towards Mundelsheim. In between we found some snacks waiting for us – some leftover grapes that did not make it into the winepresses and some apples, straight from the tree.
We did not make it all the way to Mundelsheim, we stayed in the vineyards and walked over bridges and paths to the Käsberger Kanzel, a viewpoint from where you can see the Neckar loop (or, how I call it, the German Horseshoe Bend – almost as impressive as the original one). By then the sun had already vanished behind the hills so we made our way back to the car. Sadly we were a little too late to see the changing colors of the leaves. But it was still a very nice hike, one I‘d like to repeat at some point (but only during the week).
