Today we made one of our top 3 hikes in the last few weeks and months. It was close to Aalen, to the ruin Rosenstein. In total it was a 4,1 miles loop and yet again we didn’t have to go alone today. My sister Tanja and her husband Joachim joined us for this great adventure.
The interesting part of this hike is, that you can always explore some caves that are along the way. This was the most exciting part for the kids. But don’t forget to bring some flashlights. We still had our headlamp that we bought for our trip to the US a couple of years ago, which really came in handy. Here are some names of the caves that we explored: Finsteres Loch, Große Scheuer, Dreieingangshöhle. I wouldn’t recommend exploring the Dreieingangshöhle again, because it’s very narrow and on the way to get there you have to pass so many rock climbers. We also kind of lost track of the path which meant for us to follow a (which looked like) very steep path down the hill. It was very challenging for us to not slip on the gravel and rocks, let alone the kids, that we had to hold all the time. We would skip that part next time and just pass the Waldschenke (with the playground) on the “main path” and head straight for the ruin Rosenstein. As soon as we left the ruin Rosenstein again we heard a big thud from the area with the rock climbers (where we walked before). We were scared and shocked and assumed the worse, cause it sounded like someone falling of the rock. But right after a couple of people (probably the rock climbers) shouted: “A rock, a rock”, to warn the others. So a rock from the top must have become loose and fell down. Since we didn’t hear anything else than the warnings and loud thud, we assumed nothing bad had happened and went on with our hike.
After the hike we spent the rest of the afternoon at my sisters place (it’s only 20 min from the starting point of the hike) with cake and lots of water fun. We thought the kids were done after the hike but somehow they found energy to chase us around the garden with some water pistols.
