Today we went to Geislingen an der Steige, to do one of the best hikes we have made in the last couple of weeks. It was a 5.7 miles loop through the rock valley and then up the hill to the castle Helfenstein. And we didn’t go alone today. Michael’s sister Bettina and her boyfriend Hanz joined us. Walking through the woods over stick and stone was quite the adventure again for the kids. At the castle (which was half at the half way mark) we stopped and had a little picknick. On the way back, we came by the 7 wells (even though there was only a little bit of water, right enough so that the kids could jump in it to get their feet wet.)
As soon as we were back at the car, we didn’t drive back home right away. We decided to stop by at the Obere Roggenmühle. Which is an awesome place for kids and everybody who likes to eat fish. They breed fish there, which the kids can feed. They also have Alpakas, pony riding and a playground where the kids can play while the adults can sit down in the Biergarten to have a drink or eat something. The Biergarten just opened up again (with some limitations thanks to Corona of course) but after our long hike we enjoyed being there. We first had some coffee and ice cream and then went to their fish ponds. The kids loved feeding the fish. Afterwards we bought some smoked and fresh fish, that we made on the BBQ later that night.
It turned out so yummy! All we did was season it with salt and pepper. Inside the fish we put lemon slices, thyme, parsley and a sprig of rosemary. We put it on some cedar planks and grilled it for about 15 minutes or until the back fin can be easily pulled out.
