We originally had planned to do a bigger tour for today, to a waterfall in the Black Forest. But unfortunately the weather forecast had changed and so did our plans. But we still didn’t want to sit at home all day long, which is why we decided to go to the Black Forest after all. According to the forecast it wouldn’t start raining until the afternoon. So we left early in the morning. At 9:45 am we arrived at the parking area from were the wilderness path and lynx path start. Normally you would either do one or the other but that’s way to short for us by now. Which is why I made a plan to combine them in my komoot app. 🙂 (It’s 4.2 miles in total)
From the parking area we headed across the street and followed the sign “Wildnispfad” (wilderness path) not the sign “Luchspfad”. I thought, to avoid the crowed later on, it would be a good idea to go straight and follow the wilderness path. If you don’t mind starting the lynx path at the end I would recommend doing so, then you don’t have to share the same path with all the other hikers and let them pass all the time. (If that doesn’t bother you and you’d like to hike the lynx path in the right order you can also go left and start with the lynx path)
The wilderness path is really amazing. Noam didn’t stop saying: “Oh my gosh, I want to live here!” 🙂 It was so funny. They had so much fun climbing over all the tree trunks, that fell over a while ago due to a big storm. (It felt like there were at least 30 fallen trees or more that we had to climb over …) They also built an eagles nest in which you can sit and take a break. We didn’t do the whole wilderness path. We left out the last stretch that would’ve led back to the car because we also wanted to see the lynx path (starting from the end of it).
On the lynx path you pass by some stations that always have a little something that the kids can do or where you can learn something about the lynx. There’s a station at which the kids can listen to animal sounds and have to figure out what kind of animal it is. Or there’s a looking glas, where the kids can look through and spot something in the woods… I’m not going to spoil anything, you have to see for yourself :-). After about 2.5 miles of our little tour we stopped at a little picnic area to have a little lunch break. Because it wasn’t super warm that day, we didn’t stay that long… We also knew that it would start raining soon, so we kept on going on and a little while later it really did start raining. But fortunately we had less than a mile back to the car and the path started to get even more breathtaking, so we didn’t care at all about the rain.
After 4 hours we arrived back at the car. I have to say I’m glad we went outside today, despite what the forecast predicted. We even think this trail is more beautiful when it’s raining, as it gives it a bit of a mystic touch :-).
