Since we’ve been to the US, we can’t get enough of hiking and exploring nature. So we were wondering how much there’s to see in Germany and if the trails are as nice as in the US. Let’s say this: It depends on what you want to do and see. The greater Stuttgart area does have some areas to explore, but if you are looking for an adventure, breath taking trails through canyons you probably have to go to the Alps, Austria or Switzerland. Still, there are some places where we can go to. The trail to the Uracher waterfall for example, received  „the most beautiful trail in Germany“ award last year. Since it’s so close we had to go there and check it out ourselves. So we went there on Saturday. I found a cool app called komoot that helps you with picking a good route, ours was 5 miles long.

At 10:30 we left the parking area (P19) in Urach. First we went into the woods, hiked up to the castle and then back into the direction of a little mountain hut.

You can buy food and drinks there or you can bring your own little “vesper”, which we did of course (we are Swabians after all 😬). That’s also the place where the waterfall starts.

After taking a well deserved 1.5 hours break we started our descent. First through the woods until we reached the stairs at the waterfall. That’s were we headed down. It was really beautiful and not as crowded as we thought it would be, even though it was a Saturday afternoon.

Another hiker told us to come back during winter time as the waterfall will be frozen during that time. We walked next to the little creek all the way to a Kneipp basin. Unfortunately we couldn’t use it as there was a huge travel group (mostly comprised of older people) that came with a bus who used it for what looked like games. From the empty alcohol bottle on the table and the yelling we had the feeling that they where at least already half drunk so we decided to stay away and head straight back into the woods towards our parking area. We reached our car around 3:30 pm.

To complete our day we paid our good friends Melie and Alex a visit as they happen to live in Bad Urach. For Nate this was almost like visiting a Zoo, since they have three snakes and one bearded dragon („lizard“, for Nate). On our way back we also had the doubtful pleasure of a naked butt: Next to the Aileswasen Lake, close to Neckartailfingen, we saw a meadow full of people. Suddenly one of them stood up and presented us with his not at all covered butt (we later learned that there is a naturist beach at the lake, right next to the highway). Usually no one would notice it, but due to a construction zone we were forced to drive past it with only 20 miles/h (not the usual 75). Definitely something we were not expecting and will never forget. 😂
