Today we finally went out hiking again. Until now, either the weather had scotched that or we’d already made other plans. The forecast for today was 20°C+ (around 70°F) so we picked a small route and off we went.
It started at a parking lot next to “Restaurant im Autal”, Bad Überkingen. From there, the 5.3 km loop took us through the woods, to a waterfall and back to the car again. Both Nate and Noam were walking from the start. We were really surprised how long Noam kept up – only shortly before the end, at around 4.5km, we had to start carrying him in the carrier. But neither the ascent at the start nor the steep climb to the waterfall itself posed any problems for him. He really was on fire. He wandered over hill and dale on Daddy’s hand and even managed to outpace his big brother once or twice.
Shortly before the waterfall we walked through a field of wild daffodils. I have never seen something like this before. We had heard about it and this was one of the reasons why we picked this route and we were happy that we still got to see it.
The climb to the waterfall was very steep and slippery but it was worth it. At the top of the waterfall is a cave, but since this is not very accessible we just stopped halfway for a short lunch break and to enjoy the view.
After Noam had decided that he had really had enough we put him into the carrier and cut across country to get back to the car.
The 3 hours of hiking had really worn the kids out, so they passed out on the car ride home.
